[For a moment, nothing happens. The camera is focused on a patch of grass. There are rustling sounds and a woman's voice mutters indistinguishably to herself, and eventually the journal is righted so that the camera focuses on Sally's face. There is a leaf in her hair. She does not look happy.]

Right, I think I've worked out what this thing does, and I just want to say that if this is someone's idea of a joke, I'm not laughing. See this? [She lifts up a police badge containing her ID.] This is a police badge. It's my police badge, yeah? It says I'm Sergeant Sally Donovan of London PD, which means that when I find out who's responsible for this, for...this [She gestures down the length of her body, at the dress that isn't hers] and for this [She turns the journal to take in the unfamiliar surroundings] and I don't even know how to start about this [She jerks her thumb over her shoulder at the pair of dark brown wings that definitely aren't supposed to be there] that person or persons are in a world of trouble.

My advice to you, whoever you are, is to come forward immediately. That's less trouble on my part and a lighter sentence for you, so it's in everyone's best interest. Do not make me find you.

[Sally fumes silently for a moment, and when she decides her point has been made, the recording ends.]

Its a nice to meet you, Sergeant. Is there anything I can do to help you get settled? I judge by the laundry list above me that you've got a handle on your situation.

I am a real policewoman, yeah. It can be fun sometimes, but it's more important to get the job done than to have fun, I think. And I have arrested lots of people, but only ones who deserve it.

I've been here since July, its March now, so about 9 months. And I'm sorry to say that as far as official, badge carrying cops go, its so far just you and me from what I know. There are some people from other worlds, like a Marine named Smoker, but they aren't quite the same. And a few kid detective types.

The sad truth is that there isn't much law to enforce around here.

Yeah, lots of people have. ...You're not from around here then either, are you? [The idea that the Malnosso might steal children for their little experiments is pretty infuriating, but she doesn't let that show.] It's...good your parents are around, at least.

Unfortunately, no. There isn't any sort of government. The thing is, we're all kind of unified in only one way, and thats how much we don't like the Malnosso, the guys that keep us locked in here.

Its not like people go around and cause a lotta trouble. Most people here are pretty alright, and there are enough hero types to keep the crazier villains under control.

Sucks, I know. Though, we do have a few ways we look out for each other. Patrols and such.

I can understand why, if your world looks anything like this place does. I meant the people, though.

Don't worry about it. It's mostly just to help you with the idea that people come from different worlds and end up here. That's one of the things I had to really struggle with believing.

It is hard to believe, but I guess once I got over the fact that I'm in a different world now, it only made sense there'd be even more worlds. 'Course, maybe I'm just a nutter; I'd believe it, after all this.

Its less an Interpol thing, more a Japanese police thing, but I and a couple of others walk around town, taking note of who's here, who's not, who lives where. And looking for New Feathers, like you. Sort of like an official neighborhood watch.

Hmm. At least that's something. Japanese, are you? I knew you couldn't be British, at least; you salute wrong. [Er, rethinking that one.] Not wrong for you, sorry; just different from where I come from.

I guess that happens to all of us.

[Sally laughs a little back.] I've always thought it important to be in good company.

My...salute gave it away, and not my name? Yea, I'm Japanese. Joined Interpol maybe thirty years back, haven't been home much since though.

And you're British. Whereabouts in the UK are you from ma'am?

Where I come from, we have a lot of immigrants who have names native to the country of their parents or grandparents, so it isn't always easy to tell. I just went with something I recognized.

London - well, born in Leeds, but London's home to me. Have you ever been?

One of my least favorite bits, yeah. Don't know what the folks in charge want out of us long-term, but they're not shy about claiming property.
