[For a moment, nothing happens. The camera is focused on a patch of grass. There are rustling sounds and a woman's voice mutters indistinguishably to herself, and eventually the journal is righted so that the camera focuses on Sally's face. There is a leaf in her hair. She does not look happy.]

Right, I think I've worked out what this thing does, and I just want to say that if this is someone's idea of a joke, I'm not laughing. See this? [She lifts up a police badge containing her ID.] This is a police badge. It's my police badge, yeah? It says I'm Sergeant Sally Donovan of London PD, which means that when I find out who's responsible for this, for...this [She gestures down the length of her body, at the dress that isn't hers] and for this [She turns the journal to take in the unfamiliar surroundings] and I don't even know how to start about this [She jerks her thumb over her shoulder at the pair of dark brown wings that definitely aren't supposed to be there] that person or persons are in a world of trouble.

My advice to you, whoever you are, is to come forward immediately. That's less trouble on my part and a lighter sentence for you, so it's in everyone's best interest. Do not make me find you.

[Sally fumes silently for a moment, and when she decides her point has been made, the recording ends.]

Donovan! Christ, I didn't expect you'd turn up here. Any idea where you are? [ Wait, better question. ] What about injuries, anything that needs seeing to?

Sir! [Sally just about has a heart attack.] What are you doing here? They didn't get you too? I'm - [A long pause.] I haven't the very faintest idea where I am, actually, but a young lady's helping me work it out. And no injuries, unless you count that I stepped on a rock and whatever the bloody hell these...wings are.

Got's a bit of a strong word, I think. For all I know they're just in to pick up everyone in Scotland Yard one at a time. Is this young lady meeting up with you? [ Oh, where'd he put his damned jacket, it's not that big of a flat. He does his best to put on an authoritative face for this, because if he were in her position, having someone familiar not sound confused and possibly verging on terrified would be a big benefit. ] Most everyone answering'll be willing to lend you a hand here, help get you sorted- if it helps, we all get a pretty new set of feathers around here. Wouldn't call 'em strictly good, but unless they're bleeding or falling off they won't do you any harm.

For god's sake, this is madness. [She makes a herculean effort not to break down a little in front of her boss and pulls herself together.] Right, yes, uh, her name's Jilly and she's come to meet me; maybe you've met her? I don't know how many people are here yet.

So. Careful of the wings, then? Right...I can do that. Um, how long have you been here?

[ Shakes his head at the "maybe you've met her," of course. It is the proper way. ]

All of three days. I'm afraid I don't know too many details on the situation yet, but I'm working on it. [ He just sort of has this habit of popping in on new feather posts and trying to lend a hand. ] Knowing my luck, though, the explanations are all going to be even harder to believe.

All the explanations I've gotten range from ridiculous to indecipherable. [She huffs a little in annoyance.] Everyone seems helpful enough, though. It's a start.

A start's all we need. [ It's the whole point of the word. ] We'll see where we stand and hopefully not be playing glorified lab rat any longer than absolutely necessary.

Right, I'm with you there. Do you know I found a bloody bar code on the back of my neck? [She shudders a little.] I really don't like that.

One of my least favorite bits, yeah. Don't know what the folks in charge want out of us long-term, but they're not shy about claiming property.

[ He would like to arrest them. Or punch them. Whichever is more plausible. ]

[She takes a pretty grim view on all this, but she's decided to look on the bright side.] If nothing else, they've built up a lot to convict them on.

And cheers to that. Seems like criminals just get less careful as time goes by.

That or we're getting too quick for them, sir.

I like that possibility much more.

Erm, out of curiosity, have you got a place to stay yet? I'm still looking, in between getting acquainted with the territory, but I reckon I'm the picky sort that way. I wondered if you knew of a decent spot. [Definitely need to consult Jilly about this, too...]

Well, they've got plenty set up for looking into. I just walked into community building one and took the first empty flat I got to. [ This is literally what he did. Not even lying. ] Not bad so far, if you haven't had a look at it.

...Well, that's a more straightforward approach to apartment-hunting than I've ever had.

I think I've got something figured out now, though.

[ It doesn't show as such in motion with the snapshot, but he just grins a bit for the apartment-hunting. Simple needs, simple solution. ]

Community housing building 1, floor 7, room 31. Lots of stairs, but I like to start my day with a little exercise. [And nearby so he can keep an eye on her because she is being very accommodating, don't think she doesn't know what you're up to, Greg :|]

Well, good for you. I like the easy walk to the front door, myself. [ But don't worry, if there's a fire he'll totally work his way up there. :|b ]

I guess I'm only taking up space nobody else wants.
