[The stack of books she'd gathered from the library wobbled, piled rather precariously in her arms as the artist walked back towards House 7. Even with her arms full, however, Jilly was easily distracted...and the latest distraction came when she saw rather familiar figure struggling with an armchair that refused to cooperate with the community housing door. This far from the item shops, Jilly couldn't imagine how she'd gotten it this far alone...but there was no one else immediately in view.

Shifting her books carefully, she changed directions and headed over in Sally's direction] Want a hand?

[The chair really isn't that heavy. It's really not. Sally knows this, because she transported it from the item shop to her building more or less singlehanded. Unfortunately, knowing that doesn't make it feel less heavy, primarily because she just transported it from the item shop to her building more or less singlehanded.

So when she hears a familiar voice, she looks up from the task of attempting to shove the chair backward up the first flight of stairs - admittedly having really, really not thought this through - and freezes in moderate to heavy embarrassment.]

...Ordinarily I wouldn't ask, but I really think I do.

Well, your record is safe, because you didn't ask. I offered.

[coming over to join the sergeant, she places one hand on the back of the chair, leaning forward to see where it's become jammed on the other side.]

It might be easier if someone was on the other side, guiding it. I think I could climb over there.

[Sally helpfully moves aside and readjusts her grip so Jilly can do just that.]

Thanks. I really am grateful, but it's a bit humiliating to be caught at this. I don't know many people here, none of them well, and I couldn't exactly pay someone to help. I just convinced myself to stop procrastinating and figure it out as I went along. In retrospect...

[She waves a hand helplessly.]

I think most of us have been in that position at some point, here. I had to get help moving my things to House 7.

[it takes a bit of effort to clamber over to the other side, but Jilly does it without hesitation. Once on the stairs, she can get a better look at where the chair has gotten stuck]

[Sally tries to use her new position to inspect the situation.]

I should have waited, but for being so new and different, this place is shockingly dull. Books are all well and good, but I need to keep busy or I get so frustrated, so this was at least a project; something with physical results. [She gives a sheepish smile.] Although it's turning out to be a bit too physical.

[theoniongirl]

[she laughs] That is one of the hardest things to adjust to, at first. And I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. You got it this far.

I can see where it's stuck. If we tilt it a bit to the right...your left, I guess...it should come free?

[cop_an_attitude]

Um...right, let me just... [She wiggles the chair toward her left until she can sort of feel it come unstuck.] Did we get it?

[theoniongirl]

[almost...almost....there]

Yes!

[she gives Sally a triumphant smile as she quickly shifts her grip and takes a careful step backwards]

Alright...where are we headed?

[cop_an_attitude]

Up. [She pauses.] ...A lot. But it shouldn't be very hard to lift.

[theoniongirl]

[she laughed] I think we can manage. Just tell me when.

[and, making sure her grip is secure, she'll lift her side]

[cop_an_attitude]

All right, erm - [she adjusts her grip and lifts up her end.] When? [and she takes a careful step upward, making sure not to catch Jilly off guard]

Just let me know if you need to stop, or want to take a break, or anything.

[theoniongirl]

[she laughed] I'm stronger than I look. But I'll let you know.

[and up they go]

I don't doubt it, but as someone who's had to carry furniture up steps before, it tends to do a number on the back.

[Makin' gradual progress, aww yeah.]
